Its origin is the continent of Europe, it is grown in the USA, which is the main producer of mint, as well as in Japan. The best species are grown in England, as the plant prefers moist conditions. It has been grown commercially in England since 1750. Its root reaches about three meters, it has slightly hairy serrated leaves. It is a hybrid of Watermint (M. Aquatica) and Spearmint (M. spiciata). Like other herbs, mint had frequent use by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. It was a well-known perfume ingredient among the Hebrews for its aphrodisiac properties. According to ancient Greek mythology, Pluto’s jealous wife, Persephone, buried the fairy Mentha, whom Pluto fell in love with, in the ground as a weed.
